Our UK property had its 10-year Energy Performance Certificate - and once again it came out as 79 points - 'C' - two points below the minimum for a B.
They came up with helpful suggestions as to how to improve the EPC, top of which:
So, for up to £6,000 I can upgrade the water heating which, as well as remaining in band C, will take 222 years to recoup the costs (not allowing for interest and servicing costs).
Silly things like this do not help endear EPCs to people.

Correct. The costs of getting houses up to even minimal energy efficiency are crazy and need to be heavily subsidised by the government. Ordinary mortals just can't afford it.

That made me laugh
The EPC on our UK house was a joke. They suggested cavity wall insulation: when we'd looked into that 20 years previously, there was one tiny section of wall at the end of the kitchen where such a thing was feasible, all of 24 sq.ft.

And not too long after that frenzy to pump foam into the cavities it was discovered that the process encouraged dampness to travel from the outer bricks across the void to the inner surface. Then loads of money was earned by companies pumping a solvent into the walls to dissolve the foam.
