to one and all...........

With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never be empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle, I will light your way into darkness. With this ring, I ask you to be mine.........The Corpse Bride

Happy Halloween
Despite being Irish, I don't celebrate All Hallows Eve / All Souls. I never heard mention of it (except as a religious fête) by any of my family. As far as I'm concerned, it's a purely commercial event, made so in the US and embraced by the French.
A recent TV report showed how much families were spending on it (€50-€100) whilst complaining about inflation (why isn't the govt doing more?) on their last pre-winter break in La Rochelle and Nice! QED
Bah humbug indeed!

I've just had four children of various ages chaperoned by a young woman knocking on the door and asking for bonbons. They all had ghoulish makeup on.
I admit to finding the young woman devilishly attractive ............................... I know, I'm going to Hell!

I hate Halloween today, nothing but commercial rubbish. Yes, I did enjoy the parties when I was young, but it was simple stuff, dressing up, apple-bobbing, games, none of the ghastly black and orange tat and as for Trick or Treat, it didn't happen. My mother lived in the US as a teenager and said that if you didn't give something to Trick or Treaters, they'd soap your windows ....
It's just started to pour with rain .......

It's the night of the ghosties and ghoulies.
I've just been caught by the ghosties - but I guess its better than being caught by . . .

Halloween is a huge event in the UK now, with cafés, shops etc covered in ‘cobwebs’, pumpkins, bats, witches etc.It wasn’t anything I knew of when I was young.
One of our sons was born on 30th October, so his birthday parties when he was around 7-10 included such Halloween activities as apple bobbing.
Our DIL is very keen on Halloween, so our first grandgirl has dressed up for it since she was very young and youngsters went round their small Close trick or treating. Our second grandgirl was born on 31st October, so they both join in more Halloween activities, much dressing up etc.
Our 2-birthday celebration took place yesterday, with our grandgirl wearing a skeleton costume; we popped round with cards and presents this morning and she was again in her skeleton outfit, which she’ll also wear for Cubs this evening.
Our son is running the session and was out buying apples for tonight’s cub session of bobbing for apples followed by trick or treating at pre-arranged nearby houses.

Not personally a fan of Halloween but as a youngster I remember trying to get a penny for the Guy. Having such an event as the nights draw in does not seem to be so terrible therefore. I am not sure that celebrating the misdeeds and execution of rebellious Catholics is necessarily a good thing in hindsight.
