From a not very surprising postcard (1976) to my mother the backside is more interesting: good advice with a smile for free: Please don't litter.

Also sweet, 1914, a few weeks before the start of the Great War.

I've got an album of postcards from ww2, all sent from France to the UK. My late husband's uncles. They're beautifully embroidered. Plus lots of holiday postcards and birthday cards from the same era. It's so sad to think that I have no one to pass them on to. Anyone have any suggestions what can be done with them.

You could try selling at a Vide Grenier but it will be hard work. Many will not get more than 1€ and some sadly will not sell at 50c. It is possible that there are some real gems in there but I would not know how you could tell.

Maybe a brocante would take them but don't expect to get very much - they too will have to work hard for a supper.

@ Mangetout, Exile, the vide-greniers are full of toys for the kids, clothing, rusty tools, cutlery, kitchenware and old furniture. Books seem to have disappeared the last five years. You need tourists from China, Japan, Germany or the US looking for something authentic. Those people tend to concentrate in big cities, Versailles. not in la France profonde. There are webshops selling old postcards, so they also have to buy them. Tourists are perhaps willing to pay one, two or three euros for a nice postcard.

This one would certainly catch someone's eye, it is a fold-out card, twice the normal size (enlarge).

Sent from Paris by une Maison de Modes. An invitation: Notre Exposition sera prête le 14 Mars. Nous vous prions, Mesdames, de nous honorer de votre visite, Vos dévoués etc.

I'm not looking to make money from them. I was thinking about museums or similar.

@ Mangetout, if there is a personal history to be told, dispatches from occupied or Vichy France, daily life during WW2, observations on the war, then you could give it a try here:

Another thing that’s on display in my kitchen. This arrived with other things in a parcel sent by my nephew from the U.K. a few years ago. I guess he thought I’d like it. He was right, I do.
