Shortage of blood test tubes

#1 Post by Pathca »

There is an international shortage of blood vials used to send specimens to the laboratory. It is largely due to the pandemic but is especially bad in the UK due to Brexit .
The main supplier of these is Becton Dickinson, fortunately ‘my ‘ trust uses another company, but there maybe a knock on effect .A lot of none urgent blood tests are going to be delayed for some time

There may be a lot more to this than Brexit. I say this simply because a problem that was apparently insoluble up to now - which is why there is a shortage especially in the UK - can be suddenly "solved" in 3 weeks time.

I am sure Brexit is not helping but I don't think it is at the root of the problem - which may be nothing more than increased world demand for the vials.

There was an increase in demand due to the pandemic, now people are trying to play catch-up with tests etc BD themselves are saying Brexit is in part responsible ( not me) I did notice the fact that it improves in three weeks 😀
TBH There was an element of satire in my post, the fact that people are using Brexit as a get out of jail free card for other issues
