Been putting it off for ages but, as I'm home alone, this morning I finally swept our two woodie's liners. Much easier job now with the supa dupa wizzy chimney sweeping kit.
Just got to muck out the woodies & clean the glass but that's for another day :)

LAF: That won't do for the (house) insurance. You should at least get a couple of those artificial chimney-cleaning logs with insurance certificates. A pain I know but if there's a fire and your house damaged/destroyed, you have nothing to prove that you had the chimneys cleaned.

I use the Poudre de Ramonage frequently so very little soot etc stuck to liners. The likelyhood of a fire in my all welded liners is remote & a fire breaking out impossible as there's nothing combustible anywhere near 'em.
I take dated photos of me with brushes up 'the chimney' & photo of cleaned liner & log these each year.
My ins. co seems happy with this. :D

@MAD87 Please could you recommend any particular brand of artificial cleaning logs?

It's a Maxblast Monster bought through Amazon fr.
I bought the 12m version. The brush has to be cut down to suit one's chimney.
Great piece of kit with very flexible rods. Works a treat with no tiresome pushing & pulling, just a wizz with a 'leccy cordless drill.

More info on Monster UK site & youtube (I think)

'fraid not - any bricolage emporium/quincaillerie will stock the ones with' the insurance cert on the package.
We always had a sweep to do ours and he gave us an insurance cert.
If an insurer is happy with a DIY job or cleaning log, fair enough.

Be carefull!
These things loosen the products & a some fall down but they don't clean the chimney. A thorough brushing is always required.
Personally a tin of Poudre de Ramonage is my go to thing. Used every 10 or so fires as recommended a tin lasts a season with loads of 'stuff' collected & removed from the flue each month. A thorough sweeping with a brush is easy at the end of the season as what is left on the liner comes away with no effort.

This year I made an adapter to connect a rechargeable drill to my conventional sweep rods.
Saves a lot of elbow grease.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

I'd thought of that but worried that I'd leave the brush &/of few screw together rods up the flue if I put the drill in reverse.
The ones I bought have a button lock so this can't happen.
