Paying by bank card and paying a fee

#1 Post by mysty »

It's so easy now just slide your card over the card reader and your through lidil's checkout in seconds as long as there is no line of people in front of you.
The day of a cash less economy is not far away but will it be free.
Just read about some people in the UK paying a £2 card charge to fill your tank at a petrol station or a £2.50 charge for taking cash out of a non bank cash machine.
Something else for the French to take to the streets for when it arrives in France.
I would not be happy paying a card fee for buying anything.

Paying to withdraw cash from a non bank ATM has been going on for years ,the bank that supplied the ATM at the hospital withdrew it and a private company installed one that charges 99p per transaction ,which was the best deal the trust could get

You’re right Pathca, I used to have to pay a fee if I drew cash from the local Co-op and that was over 15 years ago.

If I use the local CA machine more than twice in a month there is a charge, that happened years ago so I never use it at all now. Don't need to anyway, our local Agence Banque Postale in the village is open 6 mornings a week. :D

As Pathca has said companies have been charging for some ATM withdrawals since the 60's. As for debit card payments it is usually the merchant that pays a fee a)for every transaction and b) for rental of the equipment
