The prison service in Russia's Yamalo-Nenets district where Navalny was being held said he had "felt unwell" after a walk on Friday.
He had "almost immediately lost consciousness", it said in a statement, adding that an emergency medical team had immediately been called and tried to resuscitate him but without success.
"The emergency doctors declared the prisoner dead. Cause of death is being established."

French President Emmanuel Macron said that in Russia "free spirits are sent to the Gulag and condemned to death" as he shared his "anger and indignation" in a post on X.

"I pay tribute to the memory of Alexei Navalny, his dedication, his courage. My thoughts go out to his family, loved ones and to the Russian people," Macron added.

Yes, and they are consistently poisoned. I can't believe the Russians think we'd swallow any lies they will put about. Navalny was reported to be in good health the day before he "felt unwell" .....
