If the experiences of the Natural Environment Research Council holding a public vote to name a vessel and ending up with "Boaty McBoatface" were not enough, Air Baltic seems to have gone one better in naming their aircraft.

Possibilities were towns and cities in the three Baltic states. However, some of the city names have a different meaning in Czech - and Czech voters have hijacked the vote to push these names to the top of the list.

I wonder whether France (or anyone ever again) may ever hold such a public vote!

It's always been difficult finding names that don't have a dodgy meaning in another language. Car manufacturers have known that for years.

Renault found that out when they came out with the name Koleos for a car.

I guess that explains all the totally ridiculous made up names on cars these days.
I must say I wouldn't be tempted to buy a car with a model name that sounds like an STD.

I agree about the ridiculous names : Kuga, Qashqai, Juke, Nissan Note, Nissan Pantry Boy (that was a while ago), Renault Occasion, Dacia Bigster (could be Dacia Bigly !). The list is endless.
