I wonder, OH started to use her hairdryer this morning, one I had used to melt some manky glue on the laminate floor a couple of days ago, it kept cutting out on the integral thermal as I was using it close to the floor. Anyway 2 minutes use and bang, it gave up the ghost, something rattling around inside, got another one dear, yes anther 3 downstairs, so she chooses one and within 2 minutes that one blew up as well, just as well she has cornered the market on spare hairdryers, only another 2 to get through.

Forgot 3.30 am this morning OH comes crashing in to the bedroom curlers everywhere, "can't you hear that". Smoke alarm casually letting us know the battery is knackered, why always in the middle of the night.

We got so fed up we removed the batteries The pompiers couldn't recommend any make that didn't go off for no reason ... and always in the middle of the night.

Wasn't there one in UK called the 'Fire Angel' or something like that? They were brilliant!

Fire Angel. The problem was they fitted in the light socket and the bulb was then attached. If you didn't use the light very often, it discharged and then sounded until the light was switched on again. They went in the bin.

Ah...we must have had ours fitted to a frequently-used light

The DW uses ours as an oven timer!
