Kurt Cobain’s Fender going to auction

#1 Post by RobertArthur »

I took another good look in all the drawers here at home, but that 5 million dollars is a bit too ambitious. My cash reserves amount to about 120 euros. But it remains astonishing how much cash some collectors have.

A $1-billion collection going to auction.

It remains astonishing to me how multimillionaires and billionaires are never satisfied and never cease trying to amass more money. At some point they run out of sensible things to spend their money on.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Have to confess I'd never heard of Kurt Cobain!!!
I was a fan of Nirvana during the late 60s but didn't follow them after that.

Nirvana was formed in 1987. Are you thinking of another band?

Nope - Nirvana was formed long before that - in Britain ..... in 1966 8-)

As you'll see if you read it, the band went through a lot of changes.

I remember this song well - Pentecost Hotel :

Ah, everyday is a school day! It seems there were two bands overlapping each other.

"The original group filed a lawsuit in California against the Seattle grunge band of the same name, who played at Reading Festival in 1992, in 1992. The matter was settled out of court on undisclosed terms that apparently allowed both bands to continue using the name and issuing new recordings without any packaging disclaimers or caveats to distinguish one Nirvana from the other. Music writer Everett True has claimed that Kurt Cobain's record label, Geffen, paid $100,000 to the 1960s band to permit the 1990s band's continued use of the name.[12]"

I only know the more recent "Nirvana". ;)

"My" Nirvana! :) Dave Grohl was on drums, who later formed Foo Fighters (and was their lead singer) after Kurt's death in 1994 (he was born in 1967 :( ).

@blaze Kurt's is great but I prefer David Bowie's version.

Yesterday's news, The New York Times: Pink Floyd guitar Is sold for a Record $14.55 Million. The black Fender Stratocaster, played by David Gilmour on six of the band’s albums including “The Dark Side of the Moon,” broke the record for the most expensive guitar sold at auction. The Black Strat was sold on Thursday to an online bidder in a 21-minute bidding war, said Angela Montefinise, a spokeswoman for the auction house Christie’s, which ran the sale. The price broke a previous record of $6.01 million, which was set in 2020 by the buyer of the Martin D-18E (a rare, left-handed 1959 acoustic-electric guitar) that Kurt Cobain played on Nirvana’s “MTV Unplugged” performance months before his death.
