It really is curtains for you now me old mucker!

He reached a ripe old age, so good on 'im. I remember seeing him live on stage, probably somewhere like Torquay, when I was a young girl. Part of his show was to offer some sweets to anyone (preferably young girls!) brave enough to go up on stage and give him a kiss on the cheek. My mum and sister tried to persuade me to go up, but I flatly refused with a "Yuk, absolutely not!"

He was a good, all round entertainer, epitomising all that classic British Entertainment, although originally from Canada. "He lived his long life to the full & leaves a legacy of style & smiles & laughter," Brandreth said.

He's finally hung his dancing shoes up. RIP Mr Blair (and that's another thing, I often got his and Tony Blair's names mixed up!  )

I am never sure whether he liked it or hated it, but for me Humphrey Lyttelton's LB jokes were amusing as well.

I was a big fan of Hump, and also am of Jack Dee, and I did laugh at the gags at Lionel's expense, but I gasped in disbelief at them, especially Humphrey Lyttleton's.

As to what Lionel thought, he hated and deeply resented it. I heard an interview when he was asked about it and he replied that he rarely listened but quoted his Mum on the subject who's mantra was 'speak only good of the dead'. This shortly after Hump had died, and Lionel's response was equally shocking but answered your question perfectly 'he's dead, good'. There was a stunned silence at that, but he left us in no doubt as to his feelings on the subject.
