Last year they didn't appear, has anyone had a visit this year?

Just wondering if they will do the rounds this year.

They've not arrived yet but we have been warned about those pretenders who are knocking - you donate and they say your calendar will arrive in your letter box but wont! Last year we received a little note from the pompiers to say if we would like to donate to their Christmas dinner to donate via a cheque and hand it in at the fire station so that's exactly what we did.
With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never be empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle, I will light your way into darkness. With this ring, I ask you to be mine.........The Corpse Bride

We have only had the postie round, thank God, one year I had enough calendars to wallpaper the toilet.

We only ever have the postie doing the calendar rounds. We used to give her 10€, which was always met with a look of very obvious disappointment. Then an amazed French neighbour said that no one else gives her more than 5€. So that's what she gets now and her look has never changed. It's because she looks like that on a daily basis that she's known as Mme Heureuse.

I always give to both, mainly because the postie is great, wakes me with parcels rather than just shoving them in the box or leaving a card and always has a few moments for a chat. The pompiers saved my bacon a few years ago with their ambulance when I had to be rushed to hospital with a nasty open fracture.

Sounds like you have similar people to us.

Postie here doesn't do calendars and we've always given to the pompiers. Where we lived before, we refused to give to the postie woman because she was always grumpy and never slowed down for horses ... we saw her in the ditch at least 3 times. Why wasn't she taken off that job ?? However, when she retired, we had a lovely postie who loved whisky ...!

We had a male postie who had a reputation for speeding up and running over small animals - including our, not slow, cat. Found it by the roadside on my Birthday. What a lovely present! Eventually I think several people complained and we never saw him again.

Pompier won't deliver a calender until mid January, but we'll always give something unless they just leave it in the door without knocking, which they did in 2020 - Covid Caution!

We used to give our lovely postlady and the pompiers €10 each and €5 each for the binmen who are truly impressive. It's set to change this year though. I was so disappointed by the reaction of La Poste during the confinements...change of factrice, no or very rare deliveries, no checking to see if there were letters or parcels to go and several items that should have arrived never did. So the postie's €10 will be re-distributed to the pompiers :D
The calendars are all pretty useless for writing events and RDVs on anyway. I always end up buying one with space to note stuff.

Pompiers have been and gone. They're always patient while we sod about hunting for loose change to give them. Good to meet as many of them as possible so in case of emergency they know where the useless Anglais live.
The postie couldn't be better. Always pleasant and unlike the previous one, she doesn't drive her van over our plants to get to the post box.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.
