I think some people are more sensitive to "beings" than others and animals can pick up on the unexplained atmospheres, presences or whatever.
With the technology available today, it's not difficult to produce realistic holograms and the like. Bet the creators of the Quantock swearing ghost is having one hell of a laugh.
