Christmas ads

John Lewis, M & S and Waitrose seem to have kicked it off, have not seen anything from Lidl or Aldi as yet but then if you blink you might miss it as they probably give it as much time as they give you to pack the stuff coming down the chute.

For those with keen eyesight, the Aldi Xmas ads are taking a pop shot at M&S with a brief view of the figure of their caterpillar cake being led off by two law officers.

We've already bought some of the Lidl Christmas goodies - their stollen goes like hot cakes !
We don't have UK TV and haven't noticed French TV being swamped with Christmas ads ... yet. But we always turn the sound off when the ads come on, get up and make a cup of tea, go to the ... wherever ....

That's the benefit of adverts .. get up and get moving whilst they are on .. that way you get some exercise and also don't hear/see whatever they are advertising.

I just tend to shut off my mind (whats left of it) or read during adds.
Watching L'equip rugby now but before it started they had 10 minutes of add rubbish, enough to put you off.
I'll add that apart from cooking a special meal(venison this year)
We don't celebrate christmas, or give each other presents, not for birthdays either, being together 24/24, 7/7. We give each other things throughout the year as and when desired.

I've seen a few on UK TV but they've lost their sparkle compared to previous years me thinks. I still like this one from last year. Guess what I'm doing at the moment.......I know it's early but I'm making the most of this year my baubles are out, the tinsel is out, the fake yes fake is out and I'm ready to go - bring it on I luv Christmas

Does anyone actually think "I need to go shopping at X because their Christmas Ad is so good?"

I suspect proximity and/or pricing is the deciding factor for most people - and with a bit of planning and forethought, better savings can be made shopping online with singles day and black Friday deals particularly attractive.

@Sparkle We've had our big fake "Monterey Pine" tree bought at Woollies (!) for about 35 years and have just given it away to a young couple This year we'll treat ourselves to a real one - we enjoy Christmas too, even when it's just the 2 of us. I enjoy making decorations out of natural things like fir cones, branches etc.

@niemeyjt TV advertising leaves us distinctly unmoved and we've always refused the pub shoved into letterboxes. I agree with your last para though we've always preferred presents to be symbolic - we'd rather spend out on food and drink treats
