Paper passes for us too. We've had to show them at a couple of local music events, easy peasy.
Perhaps some people with smartphones don't have the page prepared before they get to the check - a bit like people in supermarket queues who wait until all their goods have gone through the checkout before rummaging around for their purse !

That’s not true. It’s down to an individual to have their ‘paperwork’ ready, it’s just as likely that there will be delays as people search for their bit of paper. For years I’ve had a supermarket loyalty card saved as a; image on my phone, it’s readily available unlike the cards that many other customers search for at the last minute. I have used QR codes on my phone for years when travelling on the TGV. Before that I used paper. The phone is far more convenient. My Covid Pass is stored in my AntiCovid wallet, simplicity itself to find and read.

So does that still work if there is no mobile signal Dominic? Genuine question and not being argumentative - round here there are many many mobile black spots even if you have roaming, which of course most French people will not.

Why do you need a signal? The QR code is saved on the phone as a photo. I’ve had mobile phones capable of storing photos for about 20 years.

I presume he means that a lot of British people will have U.K. SIMs which will be roaming and French people will have French SIMs so will not be roaming. Strangely one of my phones has a French Free SMS and it spends most of its time roaming as it uses other networks when Free is unavailable.

Thanks for that. I asked because everything I was doing yesterday for my friends seemed to be done via the internet and I had no idea whether the QR code was saved on the phone, or was simply accessible via the internet. Hence the question.DominicBest wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 9:59 amWhy do you need a signal? The QR code is saved on the phone as a photo. And yes most French people will be stuck with their network's system and will not have roaming.

I think you're confusing roaming with mobile data - the ability to use the internet from your phone. I'm pretty sure that all French people with a smart phone will have mobile data capability.

Roaming and mobile data are completely different, roaming is when you are using a phone network other than the one you subscribe to, you may use that network to obtain a phone signal and/or data. Some phones, like with my Free SIM, roam in the country they are based, there is no need to go abroad.

Looking at the Swiss Phone App - when I start the app it spends a few seconds "validating the QR code".
Is this an online or offline validation? I have various laminated paper copies just in case.
