Keeping packing boxes
Not quite the same as "it may be useful", but along the same lines . . .
Who keeps the packing boxes items arrive in, just in case you ever need to repack the item?
I have a bit of an itinerant lifestyle at the moment - and certainly do - but always did even when more settled.
My father, on the other hand, threw most boxes immediately - which was a bit of a pain when we came to clear the house and ended up having to scrounge boxes and packing materials.

Keeping the boxes is not an option if you don't have the storage space.

I have kept boxes and in some cases have been told they are needed in the case of having to return an item for repair. I am now beginning to be a bit more ruthless and only keeping boxes for said items and to the limit of their guarantee.

Years ago we used tea chests which we acquired then passed on to others. We used to keep the cardboard boxes supplied by the removals companies but have gradually got rid of most of them. Those that remain are used for storage.

I keep one box. Chop all the others and put the bits in this box, then off to the dechet and start all over again.
