I've just received this which could have been genuine but the fact that the supposed author didn't put my name stinks so was binned toot sweet. Apart from anything else, he couldn't possibly have sent me an SMS because he doesn't know my mobile number

"Bonjour, J'espère que tu vas bien ? De mon côté, quelques ennuis liés à ma santé des analyses à suivre dans l'urgence. Je t'ai envoyé un SMS puis un courriel et toujours pas de réponse. As-tu reçu l'un d'eux ? Serait-il possible, s'il te plaît, de te parler mail? J'aimerais que nos échanges restent privés."

Definitely a scam .. good job you binned it.
If you had replied then they would plead for help in the form of money and pass your 'live' email address onto others ..

Yes - and there are lists out there to see how your e-mail may have been distributed.

I recommend everyone has a look at https://haveibeenpwned.com/.

And never use the same password in two places.

as niemeyjt says check out the link above. I do it frequently. I also check my VPN 'preferences' 'dark web' frequently and found to my horror 2 weeks ago that I had a leak! Something to do with 'myfitnesspal' - no idea who that is or how they got my details!

But how do you fix the leak? I have been getting horrendous scam emails for months, mostly accusing us of looking at child porn, but also from fake utilities like Orange.

Change your e-mail if it is an issue to you otherwise just ignore it - once your e-mail address is out there, like anything on the Internet, it is out there.

Just got an interesting scam email saying a login had failed on my hotmail account and I should type in my password. I emailed my sister using the account and it worked fine. So yet another scam.

I've spent a lot of time on putting spam email addresses in my Orange block senders list which has worked well until last week when two emails from Darty congrats etc arrived and one this morning from different addresses. So although it's a pain the backside time wise I hover over the address, write it down and then type it into my Orange blocked senders - I have hundred's in there! Today's Darty address was @kaforo.milanopodcasteting  I really have to concentrate to make sure I copy it down correctly

I think vigilance is the only answer to scams. Changing your email address is counter productive surely. Your address is out there for a reason, so that people you want to get in touch with you, can do. And it is not so simple as circulating a new address to all your friends, there are people you don't know who you might like to get an email from.
