That information has been in the public domain for ages - sorry if I have caused confusion but we still don't actuaally know the reason. Have Barclays stated that they are closing Spanish accounts? If so it has passed me by.
Enjoy the sunshine.

see https://lifestylegroup.es/uk-banks-clos ... its-spain/
It is because banks need a licence to operate in each country and it isn't commercially viable to do so with the number of accounts

I've been with Nat west in UK for over 34 years.

I'll be pretty peeeedd off if they try to close my account. They know I live in France

If it happens I don't think it will be anything personal, just another result of Brexit.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Exactly. They don't have a choice. I had to close two building society accounts with term investments. They said they were sorry to lose them.
Fingers crossed with Lloyds; I have had an account with them since 1963!! when I first started to work there.

@ajm @exile I think the closures originally mentioned in various 2020 articles were put on hold because of Covid-19. But they have now started to re-implement the plans.

A couple of articles which may help obtaining a sterling account?
https://www.william-russell.com/blog/ho ... -an-expat/
and
https://www.expertsforexpats.com/produc ... -accounts/ which mentions Standard Bank Optimum Account and MoneyCorp
