Recurrent urine infections

For the last 4 months I've had 6 urine infections.

They are so uncomfortable and annoying, as I can't be away from a loo for more than 10 minutes. I was lucky when we recently went to Italy as I had just got rid of one.

Today I bought some cranberry supplements, 2 a day of 100mg for 15 days.

Can anyone recommend anything else to try?.

Everyday I drink around 4 pints of water, so it's not dehydration.

I am seeing a urologist in November, I was surprised at such a long wait.

Have they done a culture to see if there are any bacteria growing? ,if so they can prescribe the appropriate anti biotic ,also maybe worth getting your blood sugar checked,as Dave says if you haven’t spoken to your doctor you should

My doctor is aware of this, in fact today she's given me another antibiotics prescription.

The first 2 were tested at the laboratory and one was resistant to the AB the Dr gave me so I had a different course of ABs.

For the last 4 I didn't get tested, but took the Fosfomycine sachet, that my Dr gave me. This helped temporarily for a couple of weeks.

I should add that I am a diabetic of 53 years, so I will mention it to my specialist next week in case it's related.

A single sachet? That would be unusual for an antibiotic. Normally you take a full course until well after the obvious signs of infection have disappeared.

If you are only taking one sachet rather than a course it may explain the recurrences. Do tell your diabetes doctor as it could be a sign that your sugar is out of whack,bacteria love a warm, wet environment with a food source

The sachet is supposed to help with the one dose. Usually it does for a short time. After the test the ABS were resistant so they were changed.

I was on an 8 day course of different ABS, these didn't really help.

When I have a bladder problem I always use bicarb to change the pH in my bladder which helps. I take one level teaspoon dissolved in a half glass of water, 3 times a day for a couple of days.

Forgot to say I would stop the cranberry tabs because they increase acidity and the bicarb is to improve alkalinity, in other words the opposite.
