Eye Glass Prescription

@Coldonat As far as I'm aware, they don't. It's one of those restrictive practices that really ought to go. They claim, like so many other professions, that "things wouldn't be done properly" if someone else meddled in their domain.

We used to be able to have a very basic eye test at an optician (we used Krys, then Optic 2000). It didn't include any of the internal eye checks, pressure etc. but it was useful if you wanted a pair of reading glasses. They did a pair of varifocals that I could use for copy-typing, reading from my desk then reading the screen. Perhaps they don't do it any more ?
We don't bother with the months long wait for an ophtalmologue in France as Jersey is just an hour away and Specsavers is much easier to book an appointment for the same checks. The only drawback is that their specs frames aren't nearly as interesting as the French ones.

I had my eye test done by an Optometrist. He did not do all the tests an Opthalmologiste would do. Just the vision test. He did take photos of my eyeballs and did that air poof test (which I hate) and the dossier was sent off to the Opthalmologiste. If there had been any problems seen by the Opthalmologiste, I would have been called in to see her. As nothing was noted, she sent me my eye glass prescription via email.

I thought the rules had changed and optometrists were now permitted in commercial premises. I also thought that they had to offer a cheaper option
