"Phillip came to me today,
and said it was time to go.
I looked at him and smiled,
as i whispered that "I know"
I then turned and looked behind me,
and seen I was asleep.
All my Family were around me,
and I could hear them weep.
I gently touched each shoulder,
with Phillip by my side.
Then I turned away and walked,
with My Angel guide.
Phillip held my hand,
as he lead the way,
to a world where King's and Queens,
are Monarch's every day.
I was given a crown to wear
or a Halo known by some.
The difference is up here,
they are worn by everyone.
I felt a sense of peace,
my reign had seen its end.
70 years I had served my Country,
as the peoples friend.
Thank you for the years,
for all your time and love.
Now I am one of two again,
in our Palace up above."

Seeing Headers post on the other thread about the Queen wearing a hat. I would love to think of her with a handbag in there.People have been leaving marmalade sandwiches with their flowers after the Paddington bear sketch at the jubilee

Not being disrespectful, as Queenie is said to have had a wicked sense of humour. I think she'd smile at this! :D

Queen Elizabeth II, died on Thursday 8 September 2022

I've moved this topic here so that those of you who don't want to read alternative views on the Monarchy at this moment in time can follow the instructions on the following thread to block out UK discussions. https://www.franceinfocus.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=797

This is the best solution I could come up with because I can't stop people from posting contrary views, which they're entitled to hold, on other threads.

Thank you Char. I don't belong to the UK group by choice so didn't see any of the postings about the Queen. Of course people are entitled to opposing views, it's sometimes just a matter of how they are expressed ....

We heard the initial announcement on TF1 when we switched on to hear the météo whilst on holiday. On our return, I found we could pick up the service in St Giles on the BBC website, which was great. The reporting was, as I expected, very good. OH switched on the TV to hear how TF1 was covering it and, unsurprisingly, the commentators talked the whole time, not just translating, but talking all through the music as well. They analysed everything to death, and kept harping back to Diana, Harry and Meghan. They did the same for Prince Philip's funeral - at that time we didn't realise we could pick it up on our computers so watched it in French.

Respectful views on the mourning frenzy.

I surprised OH (now the only Brit in the family) by watching the service this morning. I love colourful ceremony and church music so in the end it was a no-brainer.
I thought the whole thing was magnificent - beautifully organised and the pipe lament was great (I love bagpipes). I hated Truss, who sounded flat and insincere and nearly put me off my lunch.

There, I've confessed fully.

I'm off now to do my penance.

I agree with all you say, apart from the Truss comments, I thought she was solemn and appropriate, unlike baroness scotland whose "performance" i thought hammy and attention seeking. That view, however, is no doubt partially informed by my dislike of her( based only on what I read, of course) I suspect your view of Truss's reading was informed in the same way, but your opinions are just as valid as mine.

I get the impression from some on here - not just you MAD - that if a tory rescued your drowning grandchild, you'd complain they'd brought him home wet.

No-one, in my view, does pageantry like the UK, we should be very proud.

Not normally my thing but today I watched the parade with awe at the organisation & precision, especially the young pallbearers.
Hell of a long time for the participants if they needed a jimmy.

I don't know who baroness scotland is - is she clergy? There seemed to have been a lot of them there with the same prayer rehashed in 10 ways. I don't know most of the politicos, nor actors. After 31 years in France and no English tv, folk have to be fairly long in the tooth for me to recognise them.

I'd have ticked off my grandkid for putting itself in danger and offered its rescuer a slug of whiskey. I'm not a complete boor!
