Fuel refinery strikes .... and more

I'm getting ready to compete in a rallye over three days , starting in La Bresse next Friday.
Will be towing the car up from Charente Maritime. Whether it goes ahead depends on being able to get there and then availability of fuel during the event.There are 77 cars entered.

Saw the first real signs here this morning*. With the tank more than half empty and no plans to go down to the valley, I decided to fill up.

No E10 available. No problem for me. 50€ max for other fuels and the machine stopped around a litre short of that maximum - hey ho. No queues however so at least sense prevails locally.

* I did slightly wonder earlier in the week when returning from a hospital visit and saw a queue at what is to me the most expensive garage in the city where the hospital is located.

It's the jerrycan thing that gets to me Is there not a single politician in this benighted country that recognises the need for cans of fuel for lawnmowers and rotovators? It's autumn, FCS! The grass is finally coming back to life, as are millions of weeds. We gardeners need carburant. What are we supposed to do? Toddle along to the local garage on the ride-on? ******g idiots.

More importantly, farmers (and other businesses) need fuel to continue their work at a crucial period. These rules are made by unthinking foncs living in a logement de fonction.

Surely, your use of the adjective "benighted" was intended to apply to the politicians and not France as a whole?

Given the actions of Putin in cutting off gas supplies to Europe and forcing up the rice of oil by getting the Saudis to cut production, I wonder if he is not somehow behind this wave of strikes in France?

Part of the reason for the no jerricans is to stop the black market sale of fuel, guys filling up barrels of diesel and then reselling,its not all stupid officials makeing up stuff on the spot.

Besides, jerrycans of petrol are not the safest things to cart around!
