Broken heart
I have always taken that very attitude that if you live here then you make, at least the effort to speak the language, and really do I need anyone on here to advise me of that. The anesthetist, who I saw first, started off in French as did I but whether it is my accent or poor French he suddenly changed to English. The receptionist / do it all nurse at the reception to the clinic, freely volunteered, in French, that the doctor spoke very good English, but as soon as he appeared at the door with a face like a smacked arse, I could tell he wasn't going to bother. Basically it was to say that he was prescribing another drug and that he had made a RDV for next month for an ECG, pretty simple stuff to understand, providing they don't speak like an AK47, upon my departure I mentioned to the receptionist, that she had informed me of the doctors linguistic talents and she said that normally he speaks in English if the patient is English, must have been something I said.

Rather there than Saumur, I went there early last year saw the cardiac doctor, she done an ECG, then strapped me up with the 24 hour box of tricks, which went back the following day, since then neither I nor my GP has heard a dicky bird from them. This at Trelaze has taken a total of less than 2 months start to where I am now.

My impression so far is that you seem angry at the whole experience. That can happen after a reboot, you become a different person. Something to do with the hardware more than the software. I think you will find lots of positives come out of the whole event. Don't expect instant stair racing as you probably are at a reduced state of fitness after months of a halfbeat tikker.

I'm sorry if I upset you, hughnique!
My first operation here went without a hitch in Limoges, at a time when I spoke zilch French. I'd been to the doctor to complain of a lump. I'd looked up 'lump' and told him I had a grumeau. I hadn't realised that that was only used for a lump in sauce, and that there were lots of words for lump. The dr put me right and managed to keep a straight face with some difficulty.

It did me the world of good being told I probably wasn't going to survive - I don't take life for granted any more and every minute of every day is a gift. I look back and see how much of my life I've wasted, so have to make up for it now while I can.

My best howler (there have been many) when I first attempted to speak French to my doctor was to tell him I was hot ! I was trying to say I had a temperature. Luckily my husband was with me and quickly told the doctor what I really meant. We had a good laugh about it.
