The other slogan for ESSO was " Put a Tiger in your tank" when you filled up with enough petrol you was given a tiger fur portion of tail, it had two red ribbons on so I used to tie them to my bike aerial, I Know, a push bike with an aerial, I wasn't    normal

@ Spectrum, now for the full ESSO add, my Epson scanner accepts A4 paper format, not the slightly oversized "The Illustrated London".

Extra: anti-knock / miles per gallon / acceleration / easy starting / power / engine cleanliness.

Try it and prove it!

Morris Minor, now better than ever. Improved performance, increased safety.

Fuel advertising continued: every decennium its own style, in 1964 and the fingerprint of today. For more than a half century the same promises: more power, a deeper clean, better fuel economy, less wear and tear.

Other oil companies tried to get your attention providing useful tourist information. In York after visiting the Micklegate Bar.

This is one of my favourite bits of old vehicle memorabilia, it’s also the hardest to photograph. It was bought for me by a close friend for (I think) my 19th birthday from a shop in Truro that sold the then fashionable ‘poster’ mirrors. I’ve always liked it despite having no real interest in old cars at the time and it’s been hung on the wall ever since. I particularly liked the fact that it was advertising a French Ford as if it had simply been an American advert it would have been much less interesting.
That was a lifetime ago. Now decades later it has far more relevance to my life. My friend must have had a crystal ball, how did she know that later in life French would be my everyday language and that I would be the owner of a Model A Ford. 🙂

My friend had a Model A Ford roadster, altered it bit, V8 Chevy, leather buttoned seats, Jag axle etc, won a lot of shows with it.

@ DomicBest, nice mirror, but to prevent a stiff neck this makes it even better.

A couple from the album. The first is my father-in-law's 34. Outwardly stock but sporting a 1940 sidevalve V8 with twin carbs and uprated brakes. The second is my 32 with the same setup. Sadly I never finished it.

On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.
