The mole would be beneficial, it's the mole rat or campingnole you have to deter in the potagè

Hardly beneficial! Have a look at this, @Lori . Very effective and less cruel than other methods. Available in most garden centres. https://www.leroymerlin.fr/produits/ter ... 29961.html

How could the mole be beneficial to a vegetable garden? I thought he would destroy/eat the roots, no? How do I know what I've got ? Mole or mole rat? I've not seen the creatures yet, just the million holes they've created.

Thanks for the link. Pricey thing that ! Gets good reviews though, unlike most of the other types of products. I'll have a look for it next time I'm out. The nearest Leroy Merlin to us is an hour's drive.. Maybe Brico Depot or Brico Marché will have it. I'll look at Castor too.

Moles don't eat veggies or roots, they eat worms. Moles dig deep, whereas the mole rat burrows just under the surface, you can sometimes even see their runs just under the surface. If you surround your veggie patch with 50cm chicken wire with 25cm burried they will not dig under it and it will keep them out. Once the fence is up, lay some poison in a hole or two and cover with a heavy stone to kill off those in your potage and avoid cats getting at it.
Edit. The mole may eat some of your worms, but there are millions in the soil. Moles also aereate the soil with their burrowings.

I have two of them, been using them in an unsuccessful battle for years. I'd happily sell both of mine for €60 but we are hundreds of km away from Dordogneshire.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Lots of stuff about mole problems on this earlier thread - maybe look there. Any help with moles will get lost on this one.

The humble dandelion's fight against Covid...

I've put my successful remedy on forums before and been roundly criticized (dog knows why). I had moles just once in each of our 2 previous rural gardens and the secret was given by a neighbour. I never had them again after following her instructions.

Dig out the mole hole and locate each chamber (usually 5 or 6). Stuff each chamber with lengths of bramble (rose cuttings if you can't get hold of brambles) as far into each chamber as possible. Replace the soil/turf in the hole and pack down level.
It's time-consuming and tiresome, but it works.

Moles are not haemophiliac but they don't like trying to struggle through a prickly barrier and will go elsewhere. Not terribly practical if you've a field to tackle, but it's free and effective in gardens.

Thanks so much for letting me know. I won't bother with it then.

5000m2 of terrain and the mole holes are ALL over the place. I'd end up digging up the entire terrain.
