Finally seen one

I've lived here for 20 years & never seen a rabbit. There were a few hares around a few years ago but nothing recently.
This morning I saw my first rabbit.
Trouble is it was lying dead on the scullery floor having obviously been dragged in through two cat flaps by our cat.
I know it's nature in the raw but what a bummer !

The last 2 villages we lived in had loads of rabbits, the 2nd one also had hares in the fields having boxing matches early in the morning.

There are diseases/viruses that wipe out the local rabbit populations from time to time. We saw it at our old place.
But there are rabbits here, and hares. The hares are often seen on the estran, the intertidal zone - I'm not sure what they're looking for. I've never seen the boxing matches, sadly.

Lived in the Lot for most of our 35 years in France, over there it was full of rabbits, buggers always feasting on our veggie plot.
Good for the pot though as I shot a number, hares and ginets as well.
Here in dordogneshire no rabbits but a few hares, partridges and pheasants.
It's the many deer which causes us the most problems.

I’ve seen very few rabbits in France although they were a common sight on the verges when I lived in Germany. A couple of weeks ago I was cutting brambles at the bottom of my garden when I disturbed a large brown rabbit which hopped off smartly. I haven’t seen it since.

Much the same here Not seen a rabbit since our English cat caught one in his first week in France, but last week our two current French cats must have found a nest. They accounted for 4 youngsters between them. I sincerely hope that one of them at least inconveniences the hare that's ravaging my borders every night
