He's so well camouflaged I had to look hard to find him ! They're beautiful creatures.

The bush he was hiding under is rampant. It seems to take over everything. I have no idea what it actually is, but it has to be seriously cut and controlled. The lizard was hiding under the part I pulled away that was taking over the rose bush. Who knows what else is hiding under that mass.

I've never seen one so green.

He's an Western green lizard - Lacerta bilineata. We used to see quite a few when we lived in 49 but I haven't seen one here. They're shyer than the common brown ones.

Oh thank you for that Blaze. When I first saw his head I thought he was a snake. We see lots of the brown ones. We also found an enormous crapaud under one of the garden tiles when we were pulling weeds.

If you have a smartphone, there is an application called "seek" whereby you take a photo of the plant and it will identify it. I'm sure there are other apps that also do this, but this one suits me.

Fortunately we never get them inside. At our last place, in the forest, it was a nightmare. I found the best compromise was to let them walk onto a fly swat and then tip them outside :D
