Twenty one years ago, when we bought our first french house, we also bought a lot of furniture & some white goods, including an elderly lave linge as the place was to be a holiday home for a few years.
Two years later we moved in permanently & my wife continued to use the machine bought with the house. The machine was transfered to our current house a further two years later & had been in constant service for about nineteen years until a 'rumbling' bearing finally gave up the ghost & a new machine was ordered & delivered yesterday.
We paid about €500 for the house contents & 21 years later have just paid the same for just a new machine .
The Electrolux machine was replaced with a similar make but I'm not holding out any hope it'll give the same service as it's predecessor.

It's always nice to hear for the customer, but not for the manufacturer! 30 years ago, we brought an Electrolux fridge from our last house in the UK. We left it to the buyers of our last house here and I'm told it's still going.

Value for money, about 27 years ago we bought a detached farmhouse for 5000 just outside Bordeaux.

How times have changed you made me think.
Back in 93 I paid £30 000 ( 3000 francs at that time) for a five bedroom farmhouse and a three storey barn, 27 meters long by 8 meters wide.
Mind you the farmhouse was 200 years old not being lived in for 100 years. Five ensuite bedrooms, huge farmhouse kitchen/ dining room, huge familly sitting room.
made three gites in the barn.
Best restoration job done in my life.
Don't ask what we sold it for back in 2008, I'm not telling.

We bought our washing machine over with us, it was probably about ten years old but still worked perfectly, it lasted for another ten years before it packed up - the replacement lasted two years.

They don't seem to make things to last now a days - I'm sure they do something that makes things pack up just when they get old enough to be out of warranty.

Being a country lad born n bred that I'd never do, even if you paid me.
Besides I've never been one to look back and say "if only'
My last built property in the uk sold back in 87 for a pricely sum was on the market 15 years later for ten times what I got.
