This was my '41. Interior was mint, exterior was a bit dull here and there but all original. Photo taken in 1968.
Oh yes that brings back memories, mine was absolutely pristine inside and out, I took a photo of a cricket match at the park, through the reflection of the door. :)

Very little changes in 2 years. From memory, the headlights look a bit different, the V-grill is the same but I don't remember those styled grills either side of it. Was yours still 3-speed plus overdrive?
Yes it was, but with the clever (for its day) Electromatic clutch. The clutch pedal was operated hydraulically sensed by accelerator position. It took a while to get the hang of moving off from rest without a "jackrabbit" start. I didn't bother with it much, only to impress friends watching the clutch pedal go to the floor with my foot nowhere near it. 8-)
That old Packhard was stuffed full of quirky features. The top of the range model had air conditioning, not bad for 1941.

On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

@ Spardo: a white Scania-Vabis steering wheel and oil pressure, temperature and fuel ("bränsle") controls.

RobertArthur What we would call 'a good kipping cab' in those pre-sleepercab days. :D But that is the bonneted model that you first showed, not the forward control that I saw at Kellogg's. Unless, unknown to me, it was an inclined motor underneath the floor. Austin BMC/BLMC (and Commer) did that in at least one model, and Jensen and a German make (name escapes me at the moment) had the engine under the chassis behind the cab.

Hotrodder Don't remember an electromatic clutch, but there was an unwelcome quirk with the gear changes when coupled to a Perkins P6 diesel engine. :o

If while in top (3rd) gear I then engaged the overdrive (can't remember how, was there a lever?) if I came to a hill which was too much for even the P6 I couldn't change out of overdrive down to 3rd till the revs dropped to quite a low level. By that time even 3rd was too high so it was almost an instant change from overdrive to 2nd. It did engender far more anticipatory driving though, if I saw a hill I dropped to 3rd instantly, just in case.

The only other drawback with the P6 was that it was even longer than the straight 8 original Packard petrol engine. Thus no room for the fan. Not that the P6 was overworked enough to need one, ram air was fine through that big radiator, until of course, I had to drive in rush hour round the North Circular. Steam and frequent stops were then needed. :(

RobertArthur Just in from my expat friends (Australia and Portugal :D ) on Trucknet UK

Bussing Unterfloor.

I was fooled by the fact that my translator tells me that 'floor' in German is not 'floor'.
