Update from Japan: not 25, but 500 EVs on board. If they are on the same deck of this roro vessel: almost mission impossible for the fire fighters imo.

I never thought I'd say this but Tony Blair has it right - cannot post link but look in today's DT and maybe others. He points out the annual increase in CO2 from China is more than total UK production.

We should not destroy the country on the altar of green just for others to pick up the pieces and carry on.

Correct. The pressure being poured on the UK to seriously curtail their existence, pay more to get less, all in the name of saving the bl**dy planet is a bad joke when you remember that one country's action will make no difference unless all other countries do the same at the same time.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Maybe as electric cars become more prolific they will cause as many fires as electric bikes https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c88x2y3kr21o

Exactly. What is the point in trying to make individuals feel they have to "save the planet" when it's industry in countries like India, China and America that are killing it.
It's exactly the same with products like Roundup : why ban their use by individuals and not by farmers ?

And on the subject of E vehicles : What about HGVs and the use of some sort of alternative fuel ? Agricultural vehicles ? Camping cars ?

We have a local guy who operates a Daf electric milk tanker. Always in pristine condition.

Haha! I get enough of that every week on the (very green!) equestrian form of transport! Mr Bayleaf is thinking about getting a bund wall done to house his electric bike - the thought of something "equivalent to 6 grenades going off" in the end room is beginning to make him twitch!

Don't forget the ceiling too!

Alternatively, if the battery is detachable as with many e-bikes maybe charge it in an outbuilding?

On a broader issue, not Mr B's bike, there seems to be a conflict between charging overnight on low-tariff electricity and charging during the day so as to have a modicum of supervision. Having said that, as the ship incident shows, batteries can catch fire when not being charged.

I guess there is an irony in "Blaze" commenting on e-fires.
