Well, there you go, niemeyjt, you're not going to work every day.
I wonder how much the bankers and their chauffeurs, MPs etc., had to cough up for their luxury tanks in the City?

Do they earn enough to change to an electric car? If so, fine. If not they will need to move away. The higher London area property prices will work to their advantage when they sell. Renters have a dilemma. There is a shortage of rental properties pretty much everywhere regardless of price. Personally I wouldn't want to live in any city for numerous reasons. I spent my first 23 years in the suburbs of LA. That was enough for a lifetime.
you don’t have to have an ev to avoid the charge, it is just the heaviest polluters that are charged.

From all the radio interviews and news in the media I got a very different impression. Buying a much newer (expensive) or electric car was the only option.

LEZ + ULEZ + LTN expansion, what next?

That is a selective quote - I said "Well for occasional visits to my daughter I just cough up - it will take a lot of £12.50 to add up to being worth trading in my current diesel Volvo - and if I did it might actually be for a petrol model of similar age." which explains what I would do were I to have to travel to work every day (I do actually work every day!).

The second such car in Autotrader is ULEZ compliant and under £5K.

As for bankers, MPs etc - the cost is irrelevant - it is the pollution - so if MPs have a really old roller they pay - a new Kia PIcanto they don't

But that is why I said it was regressive - they (and I) can buy / do have a compliant car - those on minimum wage dont have the luxury.

Get your car registered as a taxi, as I understand it they're exempt, which just underlines the fact that it's just a money making exercise.

Of course they don't. My pôint about bankers etc. is that they don't have to worry about such costs and can write them off against tax anyway. The poorer might or not have access to adequate public transport and moving isn't always an option.

No point in being affluent if there's no benefit over those further down the food chain.

Quite - luckily for the affluent Sadiq Khan is pricing the plebs with old cars off the road so there is a better journey for them (the affluent).

And further up the chain we have Sunak's father-in-law doing a deal with BP within days of the release of more drilling licenses being announced.

Chew that one over my friends.

Chew over the forthcoming India trade deal that will allow the father-in-law's company to send many more IT bods into the UK.
