Spent a couple of hours this morning picking up & dumping 3 barrow loads of windfall apples in the hope I can cut the grass tomorrow.

Dumping . . . apples . . . where's your cider press and demijohns - not to mention sense of adventure?

Just about all of our apples have been picked. You must have some very late maturing varieties.

To make cider you really do need cider variety apples, but any apple will give you a poor cider. I used to make a few demi johns, but after the fire we lost all of the equipment, so the cider apple trees just drop and feed the wasps etc, our one eating apple trained as a cordon has just given up its last apple this week.

We've still got shed loads of apples on the trees.
Wrong apples to waste time on trying to produce cyder when we get the proper stuff & Lambig given to us by our neighbours.
We usually get the apples harvested by the folk who man the food bank in the village but this year they seem reluctant. Probably because there appears to be a glut of the things this year.
Wish we'd thought of the mowing problem before we planted a mini orchard.

I could send you a few thousand frelons LAF? They'd clear your unwanted fruit in no time, just leaving a brown husk behind that's easily mowed.

It does make harvesting 'interesting'. What is more of a nuisance is that they never seem to sleep, unlike wasps, and are attracted to outside lights, so we have to share our lovely, warm summer evenings on the terrace with them. It's a good job they're not particularly aggressive
