Clear skies and last night got a good show of the Perseid meteor shower - albeit not overly spectacular with most being very brief and not very bright. Another chance tonight for those with clear skies.

Meteo predictions this morning for central France (Auxerre): 39 C. Fifty ways to keep cool: this is one of them, sleeping on the kitchen floor tiles.

Rain - please let us have some rain. The predicted thunderstorms ended up with a few flashes on the horizon and with acute ears perhaps a distant rumble. As the front passed through with accompanying gusts of wind there was the faintest hint of mist droplets. In the last month we have had two short sharp heavy showers. Just enough to get you damp but not enough to completely wet the ground.

Tomorrow more storms and rain forecast but down graded from 22mm rain yesterday (13th morning) to now (14th early am) a sprinkling in the afternoon and evening with 6mm. I bet later today that is reduced again.

The water butts are beginning to run dry and of course the plants in the garden are showing signs of drought.

It hasn't rained here in more than a month. Not a drop. There was a threat of it yesterday and the day before, but it was just a tease as only a few grey clouds appeared. It was/is cooler though and that is a relief.

Today calls for rain also. We'll see if it arrives. So amazing that we can have non-stop rain for 8 months and then the faucet just stops. Water butt also running low. Garden looks dry as a bone. Leaves dropping off of everything. All very thirsty. Astonishing how weeds seem to thrive without a drop of water.

As I predicted, the 6mm Forecast 8 hours ago has now been reduced to under 4mm. TBH I would be happy with that but there is another 8 hours before it is due to arrive.

It is kind of amazing that they can't seem to get the forecast for the day correct. I don't ever count on a forecast 3 days out or more, but you would think they'd be able to get the day at hand correctly.

So, rain was forecast for the better part of today. That was as of 8h00 this morning. No more than 10 drops have fallen. Now, they say "Rares averses" for an hour or two of the remaining day/night.
