Insulation protesters struck in the port of Dover this morning. A reporter there working for the radio station LBC said half an hour in there were only four cops there to deal with it. Pitiful. Is that what the Leavers meant by "taking back control of our borders"? The whole plot brought to a standstill by about 40 odd protesters. The port blocked vehicles getting in or out. One man identified as having been active (and arrested) in four previous demos climbed onto a tanker holding a placard. As far as I can see, the police might as well not bother attending at all if the arrested criminals are simply let go without seeing a court room, fine, or imprisonment.

Ms Patel would then have to produce time for the courts, prosecution and defence to try them. At the moment the majority of courts are not even being cleaned let alone hearing cases.

Putting Police under Army control in the UK is probably not a good idea. In any event what would you want to see the CRS doing?

As for Dover it has always been an open target. You could block of the port with about 6 cars or 4 HGVs with everything coming though one roundabout. Off in obe direction to the A2M and off in the other to the M20.

The Port of Dover has its own police force. No doubt they could call on outside forces if necessary.

I think an airport has additional laws over the M25 covering forbidden activities - hence this chap being jailed.

Hence the need for an injunction to protect the M25, so future charges will be contempt of court, or conspiracy - both of which carry a prison sentence. Obstructing the public highway does not.

But as I say, the new laws will doubtless fix that making it harder for non-disruptive protests as well as these stunts.

I hear of plenty of people being prevented from getting onto flights with small bottles of any liquid or tubes of toothpaste, etc. Just how loose is security these days? Or is Covid to blame for that as well?
