There will always be controversy over titles

The Dutch anthem praises the German blood of its royalty and goes on to honour the king of Spain. I expect Wilders will sort that out soon.

I couldn't agree more. One of the best national anthems is that of Italy - really rousing operatic stuff after the orchestral intro !

Fratelli d'Italia - I always belt it out during the 6 Nations, much to the annoyance of OH, who doesn't even like rugby. I'm determined to learn the words of Flow'er of Scotland and Saucepan Bark too - my own (original) national anthem is too hard for me to learn, although I can manage the first line.

Is there anything worse than watching people twitching their lips and trying to pretend they are singing the words. Don't bother!

I disagree with that comment. I don’t much like it but have heard many national anthems that are far worse.
My favourites are those for Wales , France and Italy.

Fair enough but we all have our opinions and I haven’t heard every National anthem by far

Verse 6:

Lord grant that Marshal Wade
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush,
And like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush.
God save the King!

Whilst one might argue God has seen off Nicola Sturgeon, one might equally argue that, like Germany after WW2, a rewording at least might be in order at least.

BTW, doesn't Luxembourg use the same tune?

You're not the only ones - the Bretons loved it so much they adopted it for their own !
