Drug problem worsening in France
We're used to hearing stories of shootouts between gangs in Marseilles, or the Paris banlieux but the problem is becoming more widespread : even Poitiers is not immune from drug-induced violence.

Even Rennes, the prefecture town of our department has had a shootout recently ....
Nearly every time I've watched the (French) news in the evening, there has been an item about drug dealing in some area of a large town/city. The police seem unable to contain or deal with it. Children are used by dealers as runners and they say that it's an easy way to earn money.
I remember the local gendarmerie years ago, when we lived in Maine et Loire, saying that drugs were available in most villages and that there was little they could do. Failure by the justice system or just easier to turn a blind eye ?
It has become a major problem and making life difficult for people living in the areas that are being taken over by gangs for drugs.
There doesn't seem to be an easy answer and the problem is getting rapidly out of control.
It would be nice to round up these dealers (if they can be caught), line them up against a wall and shoots them. But that wouldn't be politically correct, would it ?

No. It would be a waste of bullets and environmentally unfriendly. Guillotine ?

Better target the smugglers - if the dealers have nothing to deal then the rest of the issues go.

I guess that depends on whether they do crime to feed an addiction or do crime for the sake of it.

They're not suddenly going to become model citizens looking for steady jobs in either case? Like a lot of social ills, it's going to take generations to get society back on track, even if it's possible. I'm pretty sure we're living out the beginning of the end, just as all those other 'civilisations' declined and disappeared. The end is nigh-ish

I have to agree - I do fear for my children when they reach my age - if they get there.

It is. That's probably why so many youngsters are choosing not to have children - they're awake to the massive shitshow this planet is turning into. I certainly worry about our children, and they have no intention of having their own.Quiksilver wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 8:18 am Yes, it must be really tough for parents and grandparents![]()
