My husband's sets in their blue boxes were collected a couple of years ago by a volunteer in a van for the local Cancer Research shop, along with his Hornby train sets etc. Much better to bring money in for a good cause than sitting filling up cupboards.

I think you may be referring to meccano, who did own Bayko at the end.

No. I know what Meccano was / is. That was metal bits with pre-fitted holes down the lengths held together with nuts and bolts.

What I am thinking of was a plastic base. Metal rods were inserted into holes and plastic (Bakelite?) panels moulded with brick faces, window or doors were slotted between the rods.

I'm guessing that even though most kids were given this sort of thing (constructional toys) the majority grew up to become paper pushers.

Bayco, loved it. We had both Bayco and Meccano which we used for different purposes. We also had wooden building blocks of different shapes and sizes - they kept us all occupied for hours and hours. We weren't so taken with the idea of Lego but I think anything that encourages children to be creative and constructive is worth a mint.

In September 2023 Lego released the Concorde and the first of December the Orient Express. finetuning a suggestion of a fan, a certain Thomas Lajon.

My sons loved Lego, the only thing left here is this young Max Verstappen.

Life would have been very different for me had I learnt the sentiments expressed above fifty or so years ago nor had such a good, caring mother who gave loads of my stuff to charity.
