My 1932 1271 cc MG F-type Magna in 1959. Non-original Lucas P100 headlights from a Jag. Now worth about 3 grand. I had also fitted a set of Jag instruments in a mahogany dashboard.
I left it under tarp in a neighbour's garden when I left the UK in 1962.
The neighbour moved, and my Mother wrote to me in Australia, asking me what to do with it.
I said I would try to find someone to store it, otherwise I'd have to sell it.
Dear Mother misunderstood, and sold it to a young kid for £20 - exactly what I'd recently paid for a set of rare reconditioned wheel nuts.
Last time I looked it still showed as registered on the DVLA website.
I hate to think what it would fetch nowadays ..............

Treasure hunting on old hard disks.

Certainly a successful version for Rover. Taking the small aluminium V8 from General Motors and fixing some of its flaws. That engine, like so many other V8s of its time, would die and need to be restarted after any sudden hard braking. Rover cured it by fitting sensible carbs. The plentiful supply of these engines boosted the popularity of V8 engine swaps in UK. I once had a client bring me a new Mazda B1800 pickup straight from the showroom to fit one. It wasn't dead easy but the result was astonishing. He bought a Rover 3500 from a guy who lost his license and needed the cash. After I removed the engine it was parked in his drive, sold to a passing "insert your own term here" for a tenner. The bloke took an axe to it and loaded the pieces onto his truck and went away happy. Lots of aluminium panels made it easy.

Another customer had an ordinary Rover 2000. He was trying to grow a business and thought a 3500 would boost his status among clients. I fitted a set of side trims and bits to make it visually similar to the V8 model. Another happy customer.

The Ford is a 1955. My mother had a 56 convertible.
