The garden of
la Maison Jules-Roy in Vézelay, nice view, also in the direction of the Basilique Sainte-Marie-Madeleine. He was
a Free French officer during the Second World War, flying on bomber raids out of West Yorkshire, Roy continued to serve in the French forces until 1953. He then retired (with the rank of colonel) in protest against the French savageries in the Indo-Chinese war. Having already published a prize-winning memoir about his war experiences as well as poetry, he became a journalist and playwright as well.
