Blackout-proof heating

#1 Post by RobertArthur »

It is reassuring to know that when the electricity fails, there is still somewhere you can go for warmth. Here at "Le Zinc Bar Tabac" in Corbigny. A formerly neglected petit court in the open air was completely renovated a few years ago. It is heated by occasionally throwing a few logs on the fire. A double-walled chimney pipe rises very high. And the coffee: excellent. In Paris or other major cities, you can easily pay five times as much, if not more.

@ Exile, thx for your remark. Because late vocations are always welcome I see a bright and sunny new future, although it is very cloudy. Not a training course to become a professional barista, but a salesman for UPS-systems...However, there is of course something that could still throw a spanner in the works. Even with all my backups: data for life, but what do you do when all your batteries are flat?

No problem. Step outside and start your unfashionable petrol or diesel car and plug your laptop into the ciggie lighter. Once the heater warms up you're good. Been there, done that.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Don't move, my name is Robert, not MIchelle Dubois, listen very carefully, I shall say zis only twice.

quote:

Charging laptops wtih their 230 V power supplies is also possible. A low cost, low power 12V dc ---> 230 V ac inverter is all what it takes. This works in most cases, sometimes not. Reason: the 230 V AC output of these low cost guys is not always a perfect sine wave. Yes, the energy content and voltage are the same, the waveform not.

unquote.
