My brother's trip was with our light van and trailer full to the brim with cane furniture. The delivery address was in St. Peter Port and he enjoyed my envy of his planned itinery, drive off the boat, deliver the goods, spend the day on the beach, catch the evening ferry back.

You can imagine my joy as, when he arrived at the address, was given a list of private addresses all round the island, and only just made it back with minutes to spare for the ferry.

Back to food, and Jersey, we all know and love :? the first pick of Jersey Royal potato's just steamed and smothered in butter, apart from they do not exist! there is no such breed of potato, the Jersey people made it up :o the actual breed name is "International Kidney".

Don't think it was Jersey people but English I remember back in the early 60s them being the first new spuds to come into the shops and on asking where they came from, being told Jersey, soon everyone was saying jerseys.
Then Eygpt got in on the act sending spuds in even earlier, ruined the potatoe industry in Jersey, just like the tomatoes later.

My Mum loved Jersey Royals and was v upset when she found that she could not buy them in the Lot valley. She perked up when I showed her the cost of rosé and gin here compared to the UK.
How do people live without at least one dog in the house?

But how did she manage to get the melted butter on her rose and gin?

Perhaps she left it on her knife till after she'd raised her glass for the toast.

Jersey Royals are just a branding exercise for a variety called International Kidney - available elsewhere.

I always wonder how they deal with rotation and pest build up growing exactly the same variety in the same place year after year.

niemeyjt Certainly Jersey Royal sounds a lot more appealing than International Kidney

Lots of chemicals, no doubt.
