Weather ... again

#621 Post by exile »

Not a severe weather post but rather a post showing how unstable our weather patterns have become. Patterns that the forecasters and their algorithms rely on to provide a forecast.

Yesterday we we were forecast for next Sunday a sunny 10°C
Today that is a forecast for snow and a max of 5°C

Makes short term planning for the garden a bit tricky. To plant or not to plant; to sow or not to sow. :?:

Worse than that what about the bees that have started foraging the flowers and blooms that are out. To bee or not to bee.

We had nearly a week of beautiful T shirts and shorts weather - it was dry enough to give the grass a first cut. This year we want to try and stop the foxtail grass taking hold. The spikes (epis) can get into the dogs' skin, ears or nose and are the devil to remove. We also need to keep an eye out for wild oats which appear here too - perhaps from bord seed ?

It's turned colder, as predicted, with some wind, but milder than further south. The bees are out and I've put out some hornet traps in the hope of catching an Asian queen or two, though so far nothing. It may well be that I caught some last year at the end of the summer - the traps filled remarkably quickly.

The Saintes de Glace are from the 11 - 13 May this year ..... though it's unlikely to be very cold here on the coast.

The Paris - Nice cycle race passes through Autun today and there is a strong chilly wind around to greet the competitors. I was sat on the terrace in shorts and a tee shirt at 5.30 yesterday evening getting the last bit of sunshine before it dropped below the Morvan.

What a difference a day makes!

Not that it's particularly relevant to the weather, but in view of the risks of secheresse during the summer, Veolia drastically cut the water pressure in our area on Monday for 4 days. We get a trickle from our downstairs taps but nothing upstairs. I didn't go to circuit training last night because of the thought of not being able to shower afterwards
It's not been a problem but the suggestion of using washing machines and dishwashers at night was laughable given the trickle coming out of the tap.
Someone should be visiting us afterwards for feedback/suggestions.

The first thing they could do is cut the domestic pressure : everyone round here needs pressure reducers in their houses and we've got them in the showers too. One advantage of the lower water pressure in the UK is the reduction in the number of leaks ...

We have the opposite in our village in 52 Blaze. When we arrived the water pressure was great and, after a day's dirty work, the showers were like a Karcher. Alas, a nearby village ran out of water every summer and bottled water had to be shipped in. Eventually, it was decided to run a ring main through four villages to supply water more evenly. Our pressure plummeted and the upstairs shower takes several minutes to rinse your hair out.

We need to investigate a pressure pump but, as you suggest, I wonder whether we'll find leaks where we never had them.

Without looking at the meteo I reckon the weather all over France is great - judging from the lack of activity here!
I've been in the garden nearly all day & have just come in for a wash before going to pick up my grandchildren.

Very similar here Demi but on Saturday we had sleet, snow and hail - not so surprising except that snow has been rather rare this year. At least it gave me a good excuse to stay indoors and watch the last day of the 6 Nations Rugby and I was not disappointed in the entertainment.

A beautiful day here too but a cool east wind. Not a cloud in the sky - just given the grass a second cut.
