In northern Italy, two German motorcyclists are on their way to the far south. They still have quite a few tunnels to go once they’ve joined the A1. The total length of these tunnels makes the Gotthard Tunnel seem like just a small taster.

As luck would have it: you’re having a wander through the narrow streets of a hilltop medieval town in Umbria (easily accessible this time) and, lo and behold: a classic Italian motorbike with a sidecar, made by Moto Parilla (1946–1967). But unfortunately, it’s behind the large glass window of an estate agent’s office. They were fairly light motorbikes, and from what I’ve read, various sidecar manufacturers had suitable models in their ranges.

Whenever you come across a classic Moto Parilla with a sidecar, it almost always falls into one of the following two categories. The shop of this real estate agent was closed, no possibility to have a closer look'for identification, I'm not an motor bike expert.

1/ The Victoria Parilla models (German collaboration). In the 1950s, Moto Parilla entered into a unique collaboration with the German brand Victoria.
• Victoria fitted their motorbikes (such as the Victoria Fahrmeister) with Moto Parilla’s advanced and powerful 175cc high-camshaft engines.
• In Germany, these German-Italian motorbikes were often paired with high-quality, streamlined sidecars from German brands such as Steib (such as the iconic Steib S350 or LS200).

2/ Italian replicas and aftermarket sidecars. In Italy itself, heavier or sportier Moto Parilla models (such as the 175cc or 250cc models) were paired by enthusiasts with classic Italian sidecars.
