Four's enough

#1 Post by L Austin France »

Just had my annual anti flue jab which with the three anti covid makes it four holes in me arm this year.
"See you later" said the pharmacist jabber as I was putting my shirt back on. " Bloody hope it's not too soon " I replied , " four's enough for this year".

Last year I went to the pharmacy for my jab and they couldn't get the needle in my arm  They had to get another dose with a fresh needle (fortunately they had one because they ran out a month or so later).
We'll get them done next week by the infirmier beside the MT cabinet - he gets 20/20 for painless jabs !

Well I had the flu jab yesterday courtesy of my employer - and it seemed they use a finer needle than for Covid - I guess the liquid is somehow thinner - but it is still tender today. Next is to try to get a Covid booster in December.

I have just returned from the physiotherapist who said the State does not pay for flu jabs - it is down to employers or the recipient to pay if their insurance does not cover it. Seems a retrograde step to me.

As for the number of holes - I had four in a day when various nurses tried to find a vein - it took weeks for the bruises to disappear.

My third Covid jab is booked for next Monday. Two weeks or so after that I'll go to the pharmacy with my ordnance and expect to get my flu jab there and then.

I think my next pneumonia booster is due next year.

My lifelong phobia about needles is getting less and less acute lately. That has to be down to the amazing technique of the jabbers I've been fortunate enough to be jabbed by. :)

I thought these were now frowned upon in adults due to the risk of developing an allergy to the vaccine - certainly this is what my UK GP said when I questioned why no booster recall. Previously boosters had gone from every 3 to every 5 to every 10 years.

Dunno, I'm an engineer not a doctor but as my MT told me her records showed I was due a 10 year booster I deferred to her greater knowledge.
Mine was done so long ago I forgot all about it & all's OK as far as I know.................
