They only make pallets at our local one, and evidently this wood is not even suitable for that????MAD87 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 19, 2022 2:10 pm Have you been in touch with a local scierie (sawmill)? We had some conifers felled and removed from our last garden - they paid €1 000 for the privelige when the price of wood hadn't yet gone through the roof. At that time, they were selling to Portugal where construction wood was in short supply. Now it goes to the Chinese.

I'm a Brit who gets on well with the local maire, flic & neighbours, who happens to have bought what was an old farm. Farmers are allowed fires, as far as I know, so maybe that's why nobody bothers me when I have fires in this agricultural area.
If you have to trim the trees back maybe consider talking to your local agricultural contractor to hire his lamier d'élagage plus operative. One of these machines will do your job in an easy day.
I've got one coming here next week to tidy up the trees around our field & lower in height/width a massive hedge that didn't get done during covid & is now a pita. It'll be followed up with a tour of his fauchage flail to tidy up the banks & hedgerows.
Probably cost me about 3/400€ for the day & save me weeks of work & effort.

LAF's post has just reminded me .... Hughnique, why not ask Beauvilain what they could do. They've got those multi circular saws on a telescopic pole and they'd make quick work of your trees. It would be a shame to fell them if you don't have to. That said, if they've grown too big, cutting into the old wood might not please them (the trees, not Beauvilain).

Having read above that we are not supposed to cut hedges from April 1 to July 31 I made a start today to do something about a laurel hedge that is growing up into the phone (?) wire along my boundary. It's a killer not only because it's difficult to reach with the chainsaw but also because I'm not a farmer and so can't burn it. I will have to load everything onto the trailer and take dozens of trips to the deshitterie. Waste of fuel and of doubtful benefit to global warming. I would be happy to let them grow except with my luck they would eventually break the wire. At the moment they are a good windbreak from the bitter northeast winds we get here.

Have you tried having a chat at the Mairie ? At our old place I asked about a fire from bushes and trees cut back and was given the go ahead.

No. Our Marie is French.
But I am told the staff there are friendly.

No, I have not tried having a chat at the Mairie. Not that easy.

Don't bother.
Burn your stuff up a bit at a time with no huge smokey fires & I'm betting nobody will comment.
If the Maire turns up it'll be a good time to introduce yourself & plead ignorance.
