Dog attack

There was an incident near to me recently when a police Malinois turned on his handler and caused her serious injury, the dog had to be shot. If that highly trained an animal can do that, what could a poorly trained one do

Dog attack

Some dog breeds are highly protective towards their owners / handlers, I know this from my own experience owning Dobermans. I remember an occasion when my son was walking a young bitch we had and a snotty little girl he knew accosted him with a tennis racket, needless to say the dog reacted and grabbed her, ripping her coat. I was subsequently given an ultimatum, by her parents that unless I provided them with funds to by her a new bra, think it was £40 they would report me to the police. When the police did come around they did not believe that the dog they were looking at in my lounge was the same dog that had attacked a 12 year old child, kept on asking us where is the other dog. For peace of mind I eventually paid up the £40 for the bra, 12 year old with no bust. He wasn't allowed to walk her again she was very protective. This tale by no means condones loose running dogs attacking others, we have been at the receiving end of that bloody yappy Jack Russell's charging across the park to attack my dogs, then the owners sloping off whilst I tended her wounds before getting her up the vets, irresponsible dog owners at their worst.

I remember reading about that, a desperately sad situation for everyone concerned. Fortunately it's rare in a trained dog, but in an untrained dog it could be fatal.

In our case, we were on our own ground and our dog was on a lead, fortunately, so OH was able to get him inside. Had he been loose as he was perfectly entitled to be, he might have run and that could have had grave consequences.

In France, if there's a notice saying dogs must be kept on leads, it seems that the lead can be as long as you like. We've got a 10m one to conform with the law but to give our dog a bit more freedom for the coastal paths where leads are sometimes required. The paths are good exercise for him, plenty of ups and downs and some scrambling on all fours.

Perish the thought. The Malinois would have almost certainly killed your dog. Terrible thought. Malinois can run like the wind.

@Lori It doesn't bear thinking about ... and that had already gone through our minds.
