Just had an e-mail from Sealey come through, saw this, and thought of the OP:

Of course getting the exact item in France may be an issue - however I am sure there must be something similar available.

I've given it the caustic soda treatment although it didn't stay in the silencer very long as the bung I fitted didn't. Lots of black 'stuff' came out with a flush.
I've also re-engineered things so the silencer sits 50mm higher up the exhaust manifold spigot as I thought it was discharging a bit too close to the first silencer baffle & maybe causing back pressure.
Any road, after all that it'll now rev to the max. permitted 2,200 rpm with no air filter warning light flashing so all seems well.
Time will tell when I need it to rev for an hour or more but so far so good.
