Why is the second-hand car market booming?

I gather there are maps available which show them - perhaps up to date GPS also shows them ? This could limit making decisions on the spur of the moment ...
The charging network is growing all of the time. There are plenty of apps available to let you know where the nearest chargers are, their output and whether they are free or not. Our local Lidl has a free charger available for shoppers.

She broke a wheel, bent the rear subframe took a heavy impact on the driver's side rear quarter panel.
I guess she could not cope with rear wheel drive

I suppose we are different, due to our location and the DW disability's we buy new every two or three years, have had petrol and diesel and Hybrid, for Mpg the hybrid wins 50/60mpg, but we are tall and the car was small so not very comfortable for us, so back to a big 4x4 truck, 2.4 diesel auto, at our age as long as we can still climb in and out of them we shall remain with this type for the foreseeable future. As for chip shortage I'am not sure about it, four years ago when we ordered the hybrid we still had to wait six months for delivery the same time we have had to wait for our latest one.

Thanks for that info DB, I had no idea Lidil had charging points but I see a couple of issues.
1. If you have an old person in front of you struggling what to do and two others waiting behind them.

2. You cannot buy any chilled or frozen food, why you may ask why. See 3

3. If I turn up with a almost empty battery in my hypothetical new Telsa im stuffed due the closing time of Lidil.
It takes flippin days to charge. :o

Level 1 AC Charging
Imagine Level 1 as the universal charging option. If there is a standard wall socket nearby, you will be able to charge your Tesla with that. With that said, 120V is the bare minimum amount of juice you can pull into your EV. So if you’re wondering how long it would take to charge your 2021 Tesla Long Range Model 3, you’re looking at a matter of days, not hours. Not ideal.

With logic like that no wonder people are scared of new technology.

Now that I am no longer doing high mileage, down from 80,000 to around 10,000 pa, and also have the electric trike with loads of storage, enough for a week's shop, I am thinking of selling my 13 year old Berlingo which is now our 2nd car. It has been a good servant, one cylinder head and one gearbox. The latter bought from a scrapyard in Durham for £300 including delivery to France. My mechanic fitted it but said it was crap and wouldn't last. That was over 6 years ago and it is still working fine while the €600 one I bought on his advice as a backup in France is still wrapped and strapped to its pallet taking up space in my shed. That will go gratis to whoever buys the Berlingo.

I think the Partner auto I use mainly now, will hopefully see me out, saving me the obligation at some point in the future of going electric. :D

Nothing wrong with new technology, the quote for charging the new Telsa was from an oline site.
I think we still have a long way to go before they can just dump petrol or diesel engines.

DB, I am not against battree(sic) cars but feel they are being over advertised and pushed for what they can actually do. In a few years, maybe, if hydrogen doesnt get them first and there are a.ready a few hydrogen cars running around though refilling is a major problem, unless the oil majors decide to adapt their service stations which they could do very quickly.
Hydrogen is dangerous stuff though and needs careful handling, so may only ever be reserved for heavy and or public transport.

Certainly helpful if the app can also tell you if the charger is out of order or if there is a queue waiting to use it.

There are always "early adopters" for any new technology. You know the ones who camp out in front of the shop to be first in to buy the latest Iphone, computer game console, etc. And there are those whose existing device serves them well enough and they have other more pressing things to spend their limited funds on. Technology can be a very good thing but it often becomes our master, not our slave, and uses up a lot of resources to make a profit for those further up the food chain.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

The apps do tell you if there are any chargers free as I wrote above. I spent a fair bit of time in Zug in Switzerland a couple of years ago and the number of EVs there and the infrastructure to support them was really impressive. A huge number of the cars on the road were electric. EVs have been around for a long time now and the demand for them is growing all of the time.
