What's for Dinner?

#201 Post by Liz »

Definitely nothing roasted in the oven tonight here: I had potatoes parboiling, parsnips ready, oven heating up, pork chops prepped on a bed of leeks etc to be like a mini roast dinner but oh! I've found the 'ceiling'' of the oven with the heating element attached hanging down, only held in on one side.
Oops.
It is of a certain age, we knew some screws had come out but now we do have to look at it properly.
It was due to be replaced as part of the kitchen refurb in 2019 but that didn't happen, and still hasn't.....
It is too hot to look at now so top of the stove cooking it is.
How do people live without at least one dog in the house?

For lunch it was moules marinières with a crusty baguette & some Breton cider.
As we're well & truly stuffed, for tea it'll be some apple & black pudding (sort of) tarte tatin from the freezer & what ever other nibbly things take our fancy. :)

Pork steak with endive gratin, followed by satsumas in custard just like auntie used to make.

This morning I made a vat of bolognese sauce including 1kg of minced beef , 3 each of large carrots, onions, celery stalks & tins of toms.
A large dish of Lasagne was made using some of it & the rest portioned into 2 person spag boll packets for freeezing.
Just cooked the lasagne for tonight's tea & waiting for it to cool down a little.

I'm going to make a spinach and chevre quiche later on for dinner. As I'll be making pastry, I might make extra and cook up a batch of mince pies.
