Très taters in the mould here. Forecast -7 but going from the last few days' forcasts and the icy wastes of the garden, it could easily be -10 or below.

Heard two brass monkeys talking with very high pitched voices whilst I was out with the dogs this morning.

Here at the moment, it's around freezing with heavy snow showers. At the waterfront – without radar – not a ship in sight. Road traffic is minimal: no cyclists to be seen and every now and then the bus to Amsterdam Central Station passes by. Diesel engine, but very quiet now. A perfect day to check the condition of the batteries - not of our cars - but of several multimeters. You don't want a leaking battery: if its corrosive liquid gets on the circuit board, it's sometimes game over. Also a nice day to calibrate electronic equipment. My old AVO Multiminor: 10 V input (AD584K reference) = 10 V on the scale. Nothing wrong with old analogue instruments. A newer generation, introduced in 1997, a respectable age of 28 by now: almost spot on. The Least Significant Digit (LSD), the rightmost digit in a number, is not 100% correct, but that's normal. Temperature inside: 18.6 C.

I remember the really cold spell about 10+ years ago. I had to take a friend to a RDV as the diesel had frozen in his car. However the cold spell didn't last this long!

They forecast snow for us today from 10am, but looking outside, it looks anything but snowy. It's not that cold either ...

We experienced some very cold winters when we lived in rural Maine et Loire. Snow and temps down to -10°C were normal. Sometimes they dropped to -15°C. We were well-equipped for power cuts and apart from the irritation, never suffered. Roads around us were never salted or cleared, and once we could get out of our long driveway, driving on hard-packed snow had to be done with care. The only complication was ensuring the horses had plenty to drink as water froze very quickly.
The dogs loved it !

It’s currently -4 here in Lancashire unusual we get it that cold as I am just on the edge of the coastal influence. However a friend who lives on the coast has had more snow than us

I remember the previous time it was exceptionally cold, I had to use the hair dryer on the outdoor waste pipes as the waste water in them had frozen overnight.

I’ve just had to do the same thing - note to self « sort out some permanent protection to surround them ».
The previous covering I had was removed when my handyman helper jet washed around it last summer.

Not as cold as 2012 yet. Just as well, that year our water main froze, so we had no water to the buildings.

A bright interval, - 1.2 C, fifty (?) shades of blue, more fresh snow coming.
